Service

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” – Muhammad Ali

I enjoy volunteering and serving my community. Especially, when I can encourage others to join me and see the impact it can have on their lives as well. I believe life has given me good fortune and it is my responsibility to be thankful for that fortune and do what I can to provide a piece of that to others.

F.A.C.E.S

  • FACES is the local food pantry in Farmville, VA. They hold two volunteer opportunities a week. On Thursdays, volunteers can help package bags of food to be distributed to those in need on Saturday morning. I made a tradition as an RA that on the Saturday before Thanksgiving Break, every year, my residents and I would journey to FACES and help carry and distribute food to our fellow Farmville citizens in need. It became a wonderful tradition that ventured past the annual Thanksgiving service.

Ronald McDonald House

  • As my sorority’s philanthropy, RMH always held a special place in my heat. My sisters and I travel to Richmond once a semester to be able to make breakfast, pack lunch, or just spend time with the children and families that are staying in the house. We also collect pop-tabs from soda cans and donate them to RMH to raise money to provide continuous housing and meals for these families.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Trip

  • Spring Break of my junior year in college, I was awarded the opportunity to travel to Houston to assist in Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts. My group and I painted an entire house, helped install dry wall in another, and made 5,000 meals at the Houston Food Bank. This was by far the most amazing and influential service experience I have ever taken part in.
