Service

Service is an exciting part of being an honors scholar. Not only do you build a sense of community, you do it for the greater good and expect nothing in return. That is a huge lesson in growing up and it teaches people to look out for others and just to become a better person. During the Honors Retreat, I got to go on the High Bridge Trail and pick up trash and cut down tree branches to preserve the trail. I love the outdoors so it was even better that I got to work on the trail. I was supposed to help out another time on the trail, but the plan fell through. I will look into helping preserve the trail when any opportunity comes. Another service that I took part in is when I went to the FACES food pantry. I went with friends on a Saturday morning and I had a blast. I filled up shopping carts and got to take them to people’s cars and help them load it in. It really helped me connect to the community to learn stories about people that came there to get food. I even saw a worker from the dinning hall there getting food. It makes you learn how not to judge and that anything can happen. It shapes you into a better person.
