Modern Western Civilization

Goal 7

Modern Western Civilization with Dr. Deborah Welch was an average class for me. I knew a lot of the information from high school classes similar to this one, but there was still information I did not know. There were weekly readings that usually took awhile to do and we were supposed to have discussions on every Friday about the material that counted as a grade, but it seemed to never happen. Two tests throughout the semester and a final exam made up the grades for the class. The Friday talking quizzes didn’t count for anything because there weren’t enough of them. I ended up getting an A- in the class because I scored low As on the tests. I feel like if there were actually the quizzes I could have gotten a solid A. Maybe she should have just given written quizzes instead of oral ones if she could not keep up with them. I think it would help the student out more. The class was early in the morning and the professor was not an entertaining speaker, so sometimes it was hard to stay awake I can’t lie. Overall, the class was mostly a recap for me, but it helped me learn how to read better and study because of the in depth material that did not interest me too much.

These are two essays that I had to complete for my final exam on December 9th, 2016. I usually do not enjoy history essays because I have to state a lot of facts and cannot usually put my own touch on it. Anyways, I chose these because this was the first time for essays that I really dug through the textbook to help me find useful information about the topics. It helped me learn to actually use the textbooks for other classes if I want to dig deeper on a subject and actually retain the information.
