Josh Walker e-Portfolio

Community is an important part of being an honors scholar. It helps an individual fit in and strive to build a family within our school. I think of organizations and clubs that bring students with same interests together builds a good sense of community. As a freshman, I joined the Honors Student Association and the chemistry fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma. Also, I am the founder and president of the Longwood Scooter Club. If you don’t believe me you can look on LancerLink! The Honors Student Association helped me fit in with the honors community and gave me a bunch of new opportunities. I was the campus event committee head my first semester here for HSA and helped plan an event to see how Longwood has given opportunities to students. Alpha Chi Sigma allowed me to bond with individuals who share the same interest as chemistry. I could not be very involved with it as a pledge in the spring, but I met amazing people already who I can tell will be my friends for a long time. I will be able to be more active as an actual brother in the fall.

This is my big, Katelyn and I. Sadly, she just graduated, but she is somebody that I could count of for anything even though I only knew her for a semester. She helped me adapt to the fraternity and the community of scholars interested in chemistry. As for the Scooter Club, I created it to bring together other individuals who love scootering and to make a own little community that people could feel welcomed in. I am looking forward to see how the club will grow over the years.

They helped me create the club and community that anyone is welcome to join and to share a common interest. Being apart of the Longwood community helps students realize that there are multiple communities that make up on big one that is a family.
