Explorations in Environmental Science, Dr. Collier, Spring 2020

I originally took this class because 1) it looked interesting and 2) I could get an Honors credit for it. I was out of my element in terms of science. I am more of an anatomy-type science girl considering the field I want to go into (Speech pathology). In this class I learned how science and the scientific method intertwine to address environmental issues. We familarized ourselves with the Earth’s major systems, how they function, and how human activity affect those vital systems.

For the Honors requirement of the class, we had to partner up to conduct a semester long research project and then present it at the Spring 2020 Showcase. However, the semester was cut short due to the pandemic, so we had to adapt our project and research outside sources to back up our research question/argument. As a team, we created a poster to present for the virtual spring showcase and wrote up a research report (which I have provided the research report to this post and the poster is located in the “Professional Development tab within the Biography section).

Even if it was not “my kind of science”, I believe that what we learned can be used in practice to save our environment! This class made me realize just HOW much we impact what is around us!
