Student Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry (Virtual), Spring 2020
In my ENSC 162 Course, the Honors section was required to present a poster at the research symposium here at Longwood University. We were paired/grouped up and were required to conduct research throughout the entire semester. Originally, we were each going to conduct a research experiment; however, COVID had other plans and we had to use prior research to back up our research inquiry/argument. I thoroughly enjoyed this project, but wished we could have seen it through the way we would have prior to COVID. My partner and I did our research on the media’s influence of the public’s opinion/view on climate change. My first thoughts on this project were ones of nervousness because I thought that there would be overwhelming amounts of research to go through just to get our final product. After learning how to effectively break down research and specify what we wanted to look for, the research and gathering information was not as overwhelmingly.

I attended a Preparation for Grad School Seminar/Workshop with a presentation from Dr. Cralidis and Dr. King of the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDS) department at Longwood University. I was able to gain insight on the application process of graduate school, tips on the GRE, and things that make you stand out among the other candidates! This seminar was a lot of information and I felt as though I took a lot in. It was helpful in that I now know what graduate school entails and can begin to research and prepare! What I learned will be applied, and it will help me further my education for my future endeavors!
