In English 150, a variety of necessary writing skills were taught. In this class, Professor Elise Green taught us about the importance of knowing how to write for varying rhetorical situations, how to write in multiple different formats (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.), and overall how to do the research for papers that we write in any discipline. This was by far my most enjoyed class of this semester. At the start of the second semester, I had one major paper under my belt and was wildly unprepared for many situations which I later encountered in my journey. In her class, we worked on writing essays in which we examined the rhetorical situations of other authors work, but we also wrote papers researching on the topic of writing within disciplines. One of these papers which stood out most to me was a paper on writing within my specific discipline – Special Education. Through this, I found that writing for SPED profession had much more thought to it than I had previously believed. I knew how hard it was to write the many different types of papers (research and case studies) but I found out first hand why and how exactly these papers are written. Through this class, I not only learned a few helpful English tips, but I was shaped into a well-equipped, overall better writer, and my grades for the rest of the semester truly thanked me for it.
