History 338- History of Islamic Civilization

I took this class the fall 2019 semester. It is all about the history of Islam from its beginning to where we are in present times. The part of this class that challenged me the most was being tasked to read parts of the Quran and trying to understand what they meant in the context of what we were learning about in the class. Also, I tried my best to ask questions about why certain stories were placed where they were in the Quran and why these stories mattered. The Quran exposed me to a different religion and thinking than my own and it helped me understand why some Muslims are the way they are today. They are just following the words of the Quran and Allah exactly as they were told to follow them. Another part of the class that was very different for me was that we actually had to go to and write about our experience at a mosque. The mosque I went to was the one right next to FACES in Farmville. The visit showed me the Quran and all else that we had learned about in that class in action. It introduced me to new people who think differently than I do. The mosque visit made me respect other religions more because all religions are different but are here to help us find a way to the afterlife.
