The Honors College is a nice, kind, and welcoming community. Everyone does their best to make you feel like you are at home with them. A cool opportunity for Honors students are the classes they get to take that are just for Honors students. These classes can be anything from talking about love, sex, and friendship to using a place-as-text, and they are normally pretty small. This way you will know who can help you in your class if you need help and we can encourage each other to do our bests. It also helps that all of us live in Wheeler as freshman, unless we are commuters.
Wheeler is a nice place for all of us to hang out together, whether it be in a dorm room or in one of the study rooms. The activities we do together range from doing homework together or watching a movie together to decorating cookies together. We all have fun and socialize together during these times! Living in Wheeler also makes it easier to go to the Honors events held there because you are right there. Another cool perk of being in Honors is that we are all members of the Honors Student Association which allows us to get to know each other better and go on trips like the Honors Service Retreat at Hull Springs Farm. You can read more about that in my service tab! Not everyone in Honors goes to the meetings or is a distinguished member because they are busy with other things, but all Honors people are welcome at all times to the meetings. HSA is an inclusive club and so is the whole Honors College!
The Honors Leadership Retreat is something cool that all Honors freshmen do. It is where we get to move in three days earlier than the rest of the freshmen to get ourselves acquainted with Honors and transition well. It makes things easier because our Honors mentors help us out when they can by showing us around campus and answering questions about college. I’m excited to help out with this as a sophomore this year! The retreat helped me make friends and talk to people because I didn’t really know anyone when I came here and now I know so many people. The Honors community has helped me grow as a person and will continue to help me grow.
