WGST 373-50, Reproductive Justice, looked at how the inequalities in America, effect a person’s ability to receive reproductive care. I took this course because I am passionate about reproductive justice and I wanted to learn more. I learned about so many different issues that affect people with uteri that I did not even know where reproductive justice issues. Some topics that we discussed were bed sharing, breast feeding, access to birth control, abortion access, education on birth control, eugenics, and pre/post natal care. Dr. Dudley-Shotwell often discussed how reproductive justice is not about choice, it is about access. This has been my favorite course that I have taken at Longwood. My artifact for this course is the transcript for my final podcast. My partner and I, Brooke Dippold, interviewed Patricia Bryant who is a labor and delivery nurse. We asked her questions about access to prenatal and postnatal care in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We discussed how poverty and other socioeconomic factors affect the ability for a person to receive the prenatal and postnatal care that they need.
