MATH 171 – Statistics
Stats was probably the most laid back class I had second semester freshman year. I have been very good at math my entire life so I didn’t think I would have any problem with statistics either, however, I was somewhat wrong. Statistics is a different type of math. It requires a lot more thinking and analysis of each problem before you can even begin to start the problem. This was a major change for me because I’m very used to jumping in and answering a question. Statistics was not a hard change, though, it just required me to think differently about math. Throughout the semester, I managed to finally get the hang of this different type of math and ended up excelling in the course. I cannot take all the credit for this, however. My professor was fantastic at answering any questions anyone had, reviewing the homework at the beginning of each class, and slowing down if anyone needed it. One of the biggest hurdles I faced in statistics was the essay due at the end of the semester. I wasn’t sure exactly how to write about math, however, I pushed through it and ended up doing well on the assignment. Attached below is a copy of the written portion of that assignment.
