2.1 Evaluate, interpret, and apply experiment design and draw valid conclusions

One of the key skills you learn as a biology major at Longwood is how to apply experimental design and how to draw valid conclusions. I have been able to do these through all my years here at Longwood. My first experience with these skills at a college level was in my BIOL 120 class, integrative biology. We were required to design our own experiments, with some guidance, and then present our findings to the class. Our second project focused on plant growth, and the results of that experiment describe our experimental design and how we drew conclusions from them.

One of my most recent experiences with these skills was in my BIOL 475 class, animal behavior. As a 400 level class, we were expected to design a solid experiment and be able to interpret the results confidently. The lab report of our first project shows just that. It is easy to tell how much growth I have gone through after looking at these two artifacts. One from my freshman year, and one from my senior year.

I have grown tremendously in being able to evaluate, interpret and apply experimental design, as well as form valid conclusions. My many biology classes here at Longwood have granted me that opportunity to learn these important skills. These skills will help me when I apply to veterinary school, as well as if I get in. I also believe that these skills will stay with me as I become a veterinarian.
