Letter to my Senior Self

Dear Senior Self,

Hello! I did it! I just completed my first year of college! Well almost, I still have to get through exams. So much has happened already.

Adjusting to college life was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. While it was different, it was a good different. Of course, I still missed my family and friends back home, but I have grown to love the independence that college has given me. I’ve made so many wonderful friends many of whom live on this hall. Next year, I will still have the same roommate but will not be living with the same suite-mates. Kathryn and I will miss you, Amelia and Shannon! I hope we stay as close as we are now. One of the main pieces of advice that I received about college was to get involved! So I did! Here are some of the things that I have accomplished so far.

Honors Student Association! This is the first club that I joined when I came to Longwood. It is the club that goes along with the Honors college, so why not give it a try? I quickly fell in love with the service activities and companionship with other Honors students. Kathryn and I became the social chairs during the Spring 2018 semester. I even became Vice President for the 2018-2019 school year!

Jewish Culture Club! Being one of the very few Jews in Farmville, I was excited when this club was created. Soon after the interest meeting, I became the Vice President for this organization also. So far this year we have held a Shabbat dinner, Passover Seder, interfaith panel, and participated in Spring Weekend 2018. The goal for this club is to keep growing membership and continuing to expand the club!

Sign Language Club! I joined this club purely out of interest. Being an Emergency Medical Technician and future teacher, I feel as though Sign Language will come in handy. I attended all of the beginner sign classes and all of the club meetings this semester. We hosted two yard sales this year and sold products during both Oktoberfest and Spring Weekend. I became the secretary at the end of the Spring 2018 semester. I hope that I continue to be involved in Sign Language Club in my remaining years here at Longwood.

I am involved with two honors societies on campus so far. They are the National Honor Society for First-Year Students (Alpha Lambda Delta) and the National Society of Leadership and Success (Alpha Sigma Pi). I can’t wait to watch myself grow in the coming years while being involved with these organizations.

I hope that by the time I am a senior, I stay as dedicated to my work as I am now. I hope that I enjoy my once-in-a-lifetime study abroad opportunity. I hope I continue to stay as involved as I am now. I hope to graduate knowing that I did the very best that I could. I hope to make a difference, whether that be in the lives of my family and friends, my future students, an animal, or part of the world. And lastly, I hope that I continue to love Longwood as much as I do now. I’ve never doubted that I made the right decision when choosing to attend Longwood. Longwood is forever my home.

Sincerely,

Freshman Self
