Hello! My name is Mandi Andersen and I am currently a senior at Longwood University and scholar of the Cormier Honors College. I am an Elementary and Middle School Education and Teaching major with a concentration in math.
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. Growing up, I had a gigantic white board on the wall in my bedroom that I used to “teach” my students. One year I even asked for dry erase markers for my birthday – every child’s dream, right?!? My parents and brother were very supportive of my dreams. They tolerated the countless hours that I would make them sit in my room while I taught them how to add and subtract numbers. They even played along and filled out the numerous worksheets/quizzes/tests that I passed out and would eventually grade to give back to them.
Aside from studying to become a teacher, I am very involved at Longwood. I serve as a resident assistant for part of Lancer Park. I am the President of the Longwood University Sign Language Club. I am a member of the Honors Student Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Math Club, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Mortar Board. Additionally, I tutor math for the Quantitative Reasoning Center here at Longwood. All of these experiences have contributed to who I am as a Lancer. I’m excited to finish out the rest of my time at Longwood – but hopefully it doesn’t go too fast!!
