Professional Portfolio

My name is Abigail Collier and I am a senior at Longwood University. I am a Communication Sciences and Disorders major with a minor in Special Education. I will complete my undergraduate degree in May 2019. Upon graduation, I plan to attend graduate school to obtain a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I am a current member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and Operation Smile. During the 2017-2018 school year, I worked as a tutor at the Longwood Speech and Hearing Services center. Also, in Fall 2018 I worked with Dr. Mani Aguilar and the Farmville, VA Lion’s Club to prepare a presentation on hearing conservation. This presentation was presented to second and fourth grade students at local elementary schools. During the summer, I work at a childcare and learning center with children ranging in age from 16 months to 12 years.

I enjoy working in multi-disciplinary collaborative groups. I love talking to people and getting to know them. Additionally, working with children has provided me with the opportunity to implement many skills I have learned into my academic career. I exhibit patience while working on projects, both independently and collaboratively, and have therefore developed the skilled needed to communicate with a diverse group of people.

ePortfolio Purpose and Content

The purpose of this ePortfolio is to showcase my assignments from English 470, professional writing. During the duration of the Fall 2018 semester, I completed the correspondence package, the brochure, the press release, and the formal report. The correspondence package consisted of composing a bad news letter and a persuasive letter. The brochure and press release assignments were both partner assignment. For this assignment, we were required to create a non-existent product and construct a visually appealing and correctly formatted brochure. The second part of this assignment was the press release. For this assignment, we were required to create an appropriate and appealing press release of our imaginary, non-existent product. Lastly, for the formal report, my group and I analyzed three private practice speech and hearing clinic websites. Also, we composed a report that included the analysis, of the three website, a conclusion, and many recommendations.

Throughout the semester I completed various assignments to satisfy the six course objectives, listed below. By completing these assignments, I have obtained the ability to compose and edit appropriate business and professional documents. most of the assignments throughout the duration of this semester was collaborative; thus, I have improved my ability to work in groups, outside of my major assignments.
