Book Club Week Four

Book Club Week Four- Chapters 8 & 9- Pages 101-123
1. What is the role of dopamine in making a habit attractive? How could you use this idea when working with clients to help them improve their leisure habits?
The role of dopamine in making a particular habit attractive is that it gives you the desire to do something. This may be whether you are anticipating the reward at the end or desiring the end feeling, either which the dopamine will be released. The dopamine also helps you get the feeling of want for when you do a certain task or particular action. When working with potential clients you can offer them a reward of some sort at the end of completing a certain task, but you need to ensure you state exactly what it is they will get at the end. For example, if a client is having a bad day and is refusing to participate in the Bingo or card game, but you know the client loves to read a book every afternoon. You can tell the client as soon as they play three rounds of bingo or the card game you will give them 20 extra minutes today to read a book of their choice, then participating in the bingo or card game becomes more attractive to the client since they are being rewarded extra reading time.

2. According to the author, there are 3 social groups. How can you use the influence of these groups to improve your work habits? Use an example to illustrate your point.
The 3 social groups are:
1. The Close
2. The Many
3. The Powerful
We can use the different social groups in a positive aspect by following someone who excels in these categories in your life to help benefit yourself in the long run with work habits. For “The Close”, you need to find someone who has positive work habits and get great results in their grades and does not procrastinate on anything in their work. For an example of the close to me is my cousin, she is doing nursing which can be rather difficult but yet and still she has great grades and never waits on assignments and always wants to be ahead of her work. Therefore, I will develop her work ethic to make sure I do not get behind on this virtual internship or this fall semester. I also enjoy her advice when it comes to how she stays so focused and am working on trying some of those out as well. For “The Many”, you should not need to second guess yourself and always have courage in whatever you do. For an example, I check with my mentor on each step of an assignment and ask “Is this okay” “Does this sound right” or I change things multiple times because I talk myself out of what I wrote first and feel I need to write something different. I also find myself checking people’s blogs to see if my work compares to there’s or did I do mine wrong. I need to be more confident in myself and in my work I am doing. I also need to not second guess myself so much and be proud of my ability I portrayed in the post I put up. Lastly is “The Powerful”, and that is copying people who are in a higher position in life like a celebrity. For example, a person of power I admire and want to follow is Carrie Underwood for her work ethic is phenomenal in the aspect that she does so much but not one thing overpowers the others in her list of priority and yet and still she does great work in all of her responsibilities and nothing goes undone. I want to have this same mindset for my work and giving everything the same consideration and ensuring all gets done to the best of my ability.
