Agency/Setting Summary:
1. Agency/Setting name and description
Imperial Plaza Senior Living: The facility includes Independent Living (IL), IL Plus which is just independent residents who need assistance with their medications, Assisted Living (AL), and Memory Care (MC) residential facility. The agency does provide full dining options, transportation, and ability to hire companions for appointments or needs in their apartments as well as a doctor’s office, grocery store, and pharmacy onsite. AL & MC has 2 nurse practitioners who do room visits. Also has in house maintenance and activities for all levels of care. Imperial Plaza is located in Richmond, VA near the Bryant Park Interchange. The agency also offers housekeeping for all rooms. (Plaza, I., 2020, Imperial Plaza)
2. Etiology & History
Imperial Plaza was founded in 1964 by Daniel Construction Company. (Imperial Plaza Senior Community, July 31, 2017) The agency added the Memory Care Unit in 2015. The Dogwood is the newest building on the facility, so it has grown as far as number of residents served. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020) The agency has changed management company’s multiples times since it was first built. They were first managed by ARC, and then Brookdale, Somerby and finally and still managing today is Bridge.(Elevating Senior Living Communities, 2020)

OUR SERVICE PILLARS: Show Love, Exceed Expectations, Serve with Purpose (Imperial Plaza Recreational Therapy Internship Manual 2020)
4. Agency continuum of services and intended goals/outcomes for those services.
Imperial Plaza has multiple levels of care; the hope is that as residents find that they need more help, that they will move through the levels of care appropriately instead of looking elsewhere. Since the agency does not have long-term care/nursing home/skilled care, some residents do have to move to another agency to receive the higher level of care needed for them. While the agency does have a number of internal moves in assisted living & memory care, they still have a number of moves from outside of Imperial Plaza. The ability for residents/families to hire companions when needed through the agency or otherwise does allow some residents to stay where they are longer if they just need minimal help. Independent living plus also gives residents an additional option if they just need help managing their medications. (Assisted, Independent, and Memory Care Communities, March 30, 2020)
5. Stakeholders
Internal: Lifestyles (Activity) team, Volunteers, AL Administrator & Executive Director, AL & MC Staff, Transportation team, Dining team (when they need food/food service for events) (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)

8. RT Policies and Procedures
Ensuring we fill out the right paperwork we need for certain activities or outings for like catering food with dining hall and transportation for the outings to other departments so it is done in a timely manner. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
They have permission to take personal pictures on their personal devices following the HIPPA guidelines making sure that they are safeguarding the resident’s privacy by not using it inappropriately and not posting it to personal social media’s. They are the only department there allowed to do that. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
They must get permission before buying supplies for activities and such and also checking with other people in other units if we already have the supplies needed. If they need the supplies they have to ask Katie and get the permission and get it to accounting in a timely manner. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
She has to ensure that volunteers have all the paperwork done and that it is kept on file so if it is needed. She has to do a brief orientation and have all the proper paperwork done correctly and truthfully so it is eligible for when HR asks for her to produce it. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
They have to be aware of any dietary restrictions of the resident’s and have access with an updated list for if they do a food activity or a special event so they have the list so they do not give someone the wrong food that goes against the doctor’s orders that were given. They have to ensure they do not give the wrong food to residents that can cause issues. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
9. Accreditation/Licensing/Regulation
Regulation comes from Corporate (Bridge Senior Living), and the State Health Department. There are very few guidelines for AL, none for IL, and a few more for MC. One regulation from the Corporate which is Bridge Senior Living would be cost regulations on the price of supplies or a new program depending on the amount of money it would take to get the new program up and running or the cost of supplies to fund a special event of some sort at the agency. One regulation from the State Health Department would be they must have the resident’s and complete 4 or 5 activities everyday during the week. (Mesa. A, personal communication, June 10, 2020)
