One of the great challenges of this class was discovering how to take good college notes. This course helped me find a way to go in depth but not write an overboard amount of notes. I became copious and determined that I needed less distractions while taking notes. We were also tasked with debating certain topics in this class, and this helped me go out of my comfort zones and really discuss why we think things.

In this math course I had a wonderful professor who related with the class very well. By building a relationship with us throughout the school year I was more motivated to learn as we were taking this course to be able to teach math to younger students. This course went over many different strategies for teaching math and showed me the importance of knowing many different ways to teach something. Some students struggle more than others and need to see something done in a different way for them to fully understand it. It is important to relate well to your students and be able to adapt to different children.

English 165

This course was my favorite by far. Dr.Haffner did an incredible job teaching and helping me better my skills as a writer. I always loved writing growing up and I knew I was good at it, but I never knew what I was capable of until sitting down and discussing my work with someone. Dr.Haffner showed me how to put work together and write in a different way then I’m used to, which helped me put together this difficult to write personal essay. We worked on this over a period of time, completing it in stages and improving it along the way. I hope to publish my work in the future, all thanks to Dr.Haffner and his incredible skills in the classroom.

COMM-Public Speaking

This course helped me dive into my speaking skills, and put together a much better presentation. I am now much more comfortable speaking in front of others, and I can proudly say that thanks to the skills I’ve learned, I could write a speech on just about anything in only a few minutes time. I understand the importance of being a good speaker in today’s time, and I was very excited to take this course at Longwood, and proud to take it with the one and only Dean Roberts. Not only did this class teach me a lot, it also helped me build even more strong relationships here at Longwood with those in my class.

EDUC 245

Although this class was a struggle, as the professor was hardly ever prepared for class, I learned quite a bit about child development. This project above was so much fun, and it helped me see with my own eyes just how different children are at certain ages. The questions I created for this project were very in depth and created a lot of room for wild answers from different children. It was interesting getting to see that children really do take after their parents, and the environment around them definitely influences how they grow up.
