Going into the summer bridge at the Chesapeake Bay I did not know what to expect. I was nervous about the trip at first, but after first day of meeting everyone in my cohort, as well as the LIFE STEM peer mentors and professors I felt better about going. The first day we were put into groups to go to different stations to get to know our classmates and that was an amazing experience because I got to know my classmates more and be able to bond with them. I wasn’t expecting to learn as much as I did on this trip. I learned about the problems with the Chesapeake Bay such as the oyster population and the effects of the sea level rising on small islands such as Tangier Island.
Without going on this trip with the LIFE STEM program I would not have learned about such information. One of my favorite parts of the bridge was getting to know my classmates. At the end of the day of doing activities and learning about the Chesapeake Bay, it was enjoyable spending time with my classmates and having the opportunity to bond with them before classes started. The summer bridge also allowed my classmates and I to get a head start on college and be able to get to know the professors that would be working with us throughout the four years of college. I am grateful to have gone on this trip because I learned so much and got to meet so many wonderful people.
