I took my Inquiry to Citizenship class in the Fall of 2019 and it was called “Reasoning Well About Acting Well.” It mainly went over ethics and philosophy which I had never had to apply my beliefs into ethical contexts before for a class so I was interesting to learn about. It was difficult applying the arguments as valid or non-valid with specific strategies because it was very open ended, basically having to choose the right theories to present a valid statement was difficult. In the past I would definitely not have chosen this type of course because philosophy is not my strong suit but I am glad I was able to take this class. It allowed me to think outside the box and apply what I have learned to a specific situation under pressure. At the end of the semester, our final project was to apply all the theories we had learned throughout the semester to a specific topic and determine whether the actions of the situation were ethical or not. My situation was on game hunting of black rhinos. It was difficult to form this presentation because utilizing the theories taught in class, it was easier to go against my initial belief and there was more evidence to go against it than support it. However, through applying different theories I was able to support my initial belief. Below I have linked the presentation on game hunting of black rhinos.
