Freshman Fall

Volunteering for SNA’s Haunted Hospital was my first experience completing a professional development activity for the nursing program. While volunteering, I helped to set up decorations, do the actor’s makeup, and helped to plan how the haunted house would run. Although this activity did not require me to provide medical assistance, it did help to build important skills used in the professional environment every day. For example, I worked with other members of SNA to plan for the event. We had to share our thoughts and ideas with a large group of people, helping to better prepare my public speaking skills and be confident in my ability to share my thoughts with others. Another skill that I used was my teamwork skills. I had to work with the other members of SNA to ensure that this event would be successful. This involved use communicating well, listening to each other’s ideas, and condensing ideas to get the best outcome for the event. It is important for nurses to be able to work with every member of their healthcare team. As a nurse, I will need to be able to use skills like public speaking, communication, active listening, and planning to work with my healthcare team and provide the best possible care to my patients.,
