Press Release

The press release was by far my favorite assignment, as I was practicing skills I had not yet developed. While I have had to create a resume and write a letter, I have never had to take a concise amount of information, and combine the art of persuading, educating, and provoking emotion in the same document– that is what writing a press release challenges you to do. The format of the press release was by far the easiest part to understand and repeat, while the actual text or content was hard to craft and even harder as you get deeper into the release. A press release pulls a few aspects from the persuasive letter including the need to influence, while also making one concise, thorough statement for people who have no context or background information on what the press release is about. Another challenge to writing a press release is making sure to follow the 8 C’s of Professional Writing with a specific focus on correctness and clarity because a press release should avoid making people confused or upset with incorrect grammar use or spelling.
