Longwood LIFE Assistant

Longwood LIFE is a Wed/Friday program (7:30-5:00) for students in Region 8 Schools ages 18-25 with intellectual disabilities who desire a college experience leading to greater independence in life and work. Students take adapted classes in lifetime activities, fine arts, social skills, healthy relationships, citizenship and social justice, functional reading and math, and daily living skills and vocational skills. The GA would help the program director supervise students during classes, coordinate activities across campus, make accommodations for individual students, attend IEP meetings with schools, facilitate student-taught classes, and work as a liaison between the program and parents and guardians. The GA will participate in job coaching on an on-campus job site along with other special education student job coaches during one of the class days. A few additional hours may be needed around the class days for planning or for attendance with students at a special campus event on occasion. A background in special education and experience with the Longwood LIFE program is preferred.

Please note that this position is funded as a standard full-time position in the Fall & Spring, but changes to a non-standard, full-time position in the Summer. Summer would be stipend ONLY – $3,900 – which covers 300 hours at $13/hr.

CLASP Program GA

CLASP (Collaborating with Lancers for Academic Success Program) is a student success program that provides student-centered support in the form of cultural engagement, academic success, and career services that focuses on empowering first-generation, transfer, racial/ethnic minority, and limited-income students. 

The CLASP Program GA will be responsible for providing academic coaching session in the form of teaching students in a group format and one-on-one academic success skills (i.e. time management, organization strategies, procrastination techniques, general study skills etc.). They will provide case management and supplemental advising using assessment tools to improve academic success. The CLASP Program GA will assist in disseminating information and maintaining ongoing communications with participants, admit and orient new students, collect student-based data, and coordinate student success programming. The CLASP Program GA will have training and support from the staff and Program Coordinator to include weekly supervision to ensure their success and professional goals are nurtured.

Scottish Rite Assistant

The Scottish Rite Graduate Assistantship will be awarded to a first year CSD graduate student with a strong interest in child language development. Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP) Support

The Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP) provides PK-12 outreach through the delivery of STEM professional development programs for teachers, as well as programs for students. ITTIP is part of the College of Education and Human Services.

The Graduate Assistant will work with the ITTIP team in the following manner:
• Conduct research (literature reviews, data collection) in support of grant proposal writing
• Assist in data collection and research tasks associated with current grant projects
• Organize materials and assist in preparation of professional development workshops and student camps

Longwood Recovers Program Graduate Assistant

Longwood Recovers is Longwood’s Collegiate Recovery Program that offers a supportive and informal voluntary support group to assist students in, or considering, recovery from alcohol and/or other substance use issues.

Longwood Recovers seeks a Graduate Assistant to support this program.  Part-time hours will be available in October-November and 20 hours/week beginning in January.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide organizational/administrative support to the Longwood Recovers program
  • Meet regularly with students on an individual and group basis
  • Assist with publicity, promotion, organizing meetings, attendance at related meetings on campus, and outreach to the local community
  • Assist with liaison to Collegiate Recovery Expansion Grant team by attending monthly update meetings and completing reports and other documentation
  • Supervise student assistant to support efforts
  • Monitor the Longwood Recovers email account

Kraemer Family Graduate Assistant

  • This GA will support Project JumpStart, a preschool early literacy program, and will provide support to the Director in preparing materials for the preschool activities, newsletters for parents, and marketing materials. Additionally, this GA will serve as an office assistant at SHLS.

Office of Alumni and Career Services Graduate Assistant

The graduate assistants in the Office of Alumni and Career Services are integral in providing one-on-one career coaching to undergraduate students each day in office on topics such as, resume and cover letter editing, interview preparation, graduate school preparation, and job/internship search strategies. They will assist in marketing and outreach for the office as well as the execution of career fairs and other special projects and events. In addition, they will perform essential office functions in managing communication and appointment scheduling through phone calls and email. The Office of Alumni and Career Services will provide training and supervision for every aspect of the GA role.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Meeting 1:1 with students for career counseling, document revisions, and interview practice.
  • Assist with events and programming for entire Office of Alumni and Career Services unit.
  • Manage the front desk, main phone line, and email address for University Career Services.
  • Assist with presentations and classroom activities for undergraduate classes.
