I took writing and rhetoric first semester of my freshman year. This sort of English class was a lot different than any English class that I had ever taken before. In this class we did a lot exercises to get our creativity and minds going. One example of this that we did and that challenged me was the first assignment we ever did in this class. For the first 7 days of the semester we had to look at a postcard picture that we were given and write about it. With this assignment you really had to dig deep and look at even the smallest details so that you could write a lot everyday. This exercise was fun but difficult and I believe it helped me a lot with this class, as it put me in the right mindset and opened up my creativity to be successful. I really enjoyed this exercise, because it was fun and different in comparison to other activities that I have had in other English classes and I feel I got more out of it than most exercises in other classes. This class really helped me with my creativity and I saw an improvement in it through a variety of our exercises and assignments. This class also helped me write creatively and in different styles, as I am really just used to writing research papers, but now I have experience in an abundance of different ones.
