In order to complete goal 4 of Longwood’s curriculum, I decided to take Theatre 101. Having seen numerous plays before, I was familiar with the theatre. However, through this course I learned that there is a lot more to theatre than just what the audience sees during showtime. Through Issues in Theatre I gained a greater understanding of the amount of effort and thought that goes into each and every production of a show. I able to learn technical theatre terms and analyze them after watching Longwood’s productions of The Heidi Chronicles and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Below I have included a paper I wrote about the musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, where I evaluate the acting. Taking Issues in Theatre opened my eyes to how theatre reflects our society and how applicable it can be to our lives.
