Hello and Welcome to my Professional Writing ePortfolio. At Longwood University, I have dual roles as a full-time employee and a part-time student. The course, English 470, Professional Writing has been very educational in both roles. I would encourage anyone who writes in a professional setting to take this course.

Many of the course outcomes I have practiced, with varying degrees of success, in my position in the Registrar’s Office at Longwood, however I never had formal training. Now, I was learning the structure and theory of writing professionally. I found myself rethinking every email I wrote to staff, faculty and students. I could recognize grammar mistakes and aimed for better clarity. I have no doubt the outcomes listed below, will become as critical and influential in all my writing.

  • Analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world;
  • Create professional documents that use plan English (clear, concise and grammatically correct;
  • Conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents;
  • Create professional documents that uses design- standard formats, layouts, use of graphics, etc.;
  • Practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools);
  • Participate productively in collaborative projects.

Each tab of this site contains a reflection on the area we studied in the course and the resulting final assignments.
