Scholarship

Scholarship is a very important aspect to me. In my mind, scholarship isn’t all about the grades you receive, although those are a big part. Scholarship is about truly learning material and being able to take what you learn in one instance, and apply it to other situations throughout life. The Honors College stresses this by having students relate what they are learning in class, to the bigger picture through research and various projects. I believe scholarship is essential to be successful. Being able to learn, understand and apply is one of the most important aspects of life.

During the Summer of 2016, I studied abroad to Valencia, Spain for a month. This adventure surely helped to advance me in the scholarship pillar. During this trip, I was immersed in the Spanish culture and language. I stayed with a host family, ate their food and lived like a Spaniard. This was a time where I was able to transfer the knowledge I gained from all my  Spanish classes and use it in a different country. This trip helped me to gain independence, helped me to appreciate the small things in life and helped me to realize the beauty throughout this world. This trip was one of the highlights of my 4 years at Longwood, and I was value and cherish the moments and memories gained.
