My name is Sierra Garland. I attend Longwood University and I am a Senior Liberal Studies major with a concentration in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. I am from Chesterfield, Virginia, where I plan to return after graduation to teach. Throughout my time at Longwood I was involved in various clubs and organizations such as Longwood Ambassadors, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Women’s Club Basketball, Mortar Board, Honor and Conduct Board, etc. I have enjoyed being able to grow as a citizen leader at Longwood and I hope to transfer these abilities into my career as a future elementary school teacher. As a teacher, my goal will be to ensure ALL students understand they are capable, and to equip students with the tools so they are in fact capable. I will fight for equity to ensure all students are provided with what is owed to them by the public school systems. I desire to serve the underrepresented populations and show them they have an advocate. I believe Longwood has equipped me with the capabilities to achieve these goals and to begin to go out and make the world a better place.
