Biography

Hi! My name is Ashley Schweizer. I am currently a rising sophomore studying liberal studies with a concentration in Special Education. I plan to pursue my master’s degree in Special Education as well hopefully at Longwood University. I am from Northern Virginia, specifically Springfield but have lived all over the country as a prior military brat. After college, I am hoping to move back up to Springfield and get a job in Fairfax County Public Schools, but nothing’s ever set in stone!

I have wanted to become a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I loved playing teacher and learning. In fourth grade, I won “Teacher For a Day” and I spent all day planning lessons and printing out worksheets. It was one of my most memorable experiences from elementary school. I specifically wanted to become a Special Education teacher after being placed in the same class as a girl with Down Syndrome in second grade. She had such a positive outlook on life and we connected immediately and became very close friends. She has inspired me throughout life and encouraged me to get involved with special needs children and their organizations. We are still friends today and I can never thank her enough for helping me find my passion!

Attached I have included a picture of me (I’m on the right) and my friend Sienna at the end of freshman year!
