In the Journal entry above, English 400 was already showing me how to look for rhetorical devices from different papers. Getting to know the author, his/her audience, the purpose of the document, what context or setting was the speech given in, and whether or not the author was using ethos, pathos, or logos. By being able to distinguish who the author was writing for, I can understand his writing technique and how he/she would change their writing style to persuade/inform or to entertain their audience.
The Journal entry above improved on my general grammar sills that effectively helped my writing as a whole. This entry is geared mainly toward the fifth-course learning outcome. By understanding the skills that I need to get my point across I can effectively become a citizen leader.
The Common Good project had a couple of Journal Entries or status reports that helped with goal 1. It put us into a group and we got to discover what the problem means to each of us individually or finding multiple perspectives on a certain topic.
In total the Jornal Entries had me think about the basics of speaking and writing as a citizen leader. Whether it was identifying the purpose, audience, or context (Goal 2)
