Letter to My Senior Self

Dear Senior Year Emily,

Hello. I hope you (we?) have achieved all that you hoped and wished for. I hope that your athletic career was something you are proud of and will remember forever. Most of all, I hope you don’t forget your time at Longwood. If we could talk, I would have so many questions: Where did you do your internship? What was your favorite class out of every single one you ever took? What surprised you the most about yourself?  Are you happy with how far you’ve come?

Right now, my ideal plan is to graduate a semester early, and go to grad school. Where? I have no idea, but I would like to possibly study forensics. This will probably change (again) in two months. I am eager to see how much you have changed since freshman year. I hope you have gotten over your public speaking issues, or are at least more confident in yourself when presenting.

Keep working hard, like I know you have been. I hope you have had all the opportunities you’ve wanted, in and outside of the classroom. I hope you still aim high, and push yourself harder everyday. Feel free to express yourself and be true to yourself. DO NOT forget your friends, memories, or struggles.

Keep in mind the Pillars which were very important to your time at Longwood. Of all, maintain Service and make sure you reach out and volunteer as often as possible. Servicing others helps others, and yourself in way you cannot see immediately, but the effects are forever. Hold Scholarship and academics high on your priority list, especially as you enter grad school, and value your changing Community as you did here.

Lastly, I hope you’ve grown a lot. I am sure you are cringing reading this, but it’s all written with good intentions. Have fun in life, and succeed in whatever it is you’re doing.

With a little love,

Freshman year Emily

Me and my adventures at Longwood!
