~ Modern Western Civilization ~
Modern Western Civilization was a lecture based class consisting of notes, notes, and more notes. We had no papers, projects, or assignments besides quizzes and tests. The tests were the most engaging, consisting of short answer vocabulary definitions, and an essay. I found success in this class by reading my notes over and over, and occasionally rewriting them when I had issues remembering certain topics. Although I will never have to take another History course to get my degree, I feel like the studying techniques I used will translate to other classes, especially those heavy on lectures. I hope to maintain these study habits for the next three years at Longwood, and keep my determination through all my classes next fall.
I have never been a fan of history simply because I have difficulty remembering dates, but after I found how to study them successfully I’d like to take other courses on topics I have previously found challenging to force myself to push harder and come out successful. My goal from this class is to take at least one more class on a topic I used to dislike before I am out of college, and apply the same techniques to get the same result.
Because we had no assignments, I had no real artifact to add to this page. I have, however, included pictures of an essay which I wrote for one of the tests we had during the semester on the factors that caused the French Revolution. I am very proud of myself for this essay, as I had struggled with writing about history and chronological events previously, and am glad that after brainstorming and planning it out I was able to receive a high mark on a topic I would have never thought I would.
