Reflection: This course was very different from most english courses I have taken. Throughout the semester, we studied “journeys” in American Literature. At the end of the semester, we took the journeys that we had studied in each individual books and thought about the journey that American Literature took as a whole. I thought that this was a very unique and helpful way to study literature. At the end of the course I came to the conclusion that no time period in literature is static – they all flourish as time goes on. This course on American Literature definitely bolstered my comfort level when discussing and identifying themes not only in pieces of literature, but also in time periods as well.
