Reflection
In Contemporary Social Problems we spent most of the class discussing the social problems our world is currently facing and potential solutions/ past attempted solutions. The ASA 7 paper I wrote on the documentary Skid Row is a great example of what we did in the class because the documentary provided an objective view of the people living in poverty on the street known as skid row. The paper was meant to connect real life happenings to what I learned from the text book and it did just that. I was able to comprehend that the things we were discussing in class were actually impacting people in the world. As one of the later writing assignments from the class this paper was longer than most, showing that I gained more understanding of the connection the class had with the real world. Throughout the semester I saw more and more how social constructs influenced so much and how social problems formed. After rereading my paper I wish I had touched more on potential solutions for the social problem presented in it. However, a goal I have after completing the class is to acknowledge social problems in the world around me more by staying up to date on news and questioning what could potentially be solved.
