Throughout Education 245 honors, future nurses, teachers, and speech pathologists learned about humans and the way that they grow emotionally, physically, and cognitively from birth to adolescence. Throughout the class, we partook in class discussion, had many hands-on activities, and completed appropriate projects and papers in order to further aid our education. Dr. Dororithy Cosby modeled activities that future teachers could possibly use in their classrooms one day with her hands-on activities, which made the class the perfect environment for liberal studies majors. For the nursing student, there was much discussion of prenatal care and everything that comes with birth and adolescence which has to do with the nursing field. Speech pathologists were given knowledge similar to that of their speech pathology courses and learned more about speech problems and their possible causes and the effect they have on the growth and development of children. In this class, perhaps my favorite assignment used an interesting medium. It was a project in which we had to essentially perform a case study on a child – real or made up, then do an inquiry-based project based on our findings. We made an inquiry as to why they were possibly turning out the way they were and solved it by looking at varying aspects of the child’s life. For extra credit, we were allowed to create a blog, which I have attached the link to after this description, and we were also expected to present the findings of our inquiry-based project in class, showing our fellow peers what conclusions were drawn for the assignment. This was by far one of my favorite assignments of the entire semester.
