Formal Report

The last assignment of this semester was a formal report conducted in the same groups we had for the brochure and press release. The task of this assignment was to act as a consulting firm and assist a resort in making an updated website by making a formal report. Within this report, we analyzed three different resorts. Those resorts were analyzed on the ease of use, content, and formatting and design. In addition, we created surveys for guests and employees to complete about website improvement.  These surveys asked how important the ease of use, content, formatting, and design is to a website and website traffic. After gathering the correspondence letters, surveys, data, and analyses we created the report. Once completed my group had to present a 15 minute presentations to the class, english 470. We played the role as the consulting firm and my class peers played the role of the resort G.O.A.T Inc. is assisting. Once the presentation was completed, the floor was open for discussion.

The formal report accomplished all six course learning outcomes in its own specific way. A couple that stood out the most was number five which states, “participate oral communication skills to present content effectively”. It was achieved by presenting our formal report to the class and informing them about our findings and the recommendations we had for the resort. Presenting this formal report made me believe that I actually knew the information I had learned while conducting the research. The reason I believe this is true is because I did not have to use my notecards, I barely said “um”, and it was easy answering the questions asked by the resort we were assisting. Having this confidence was achieved by practice, practice, and more practice.

The formal report also fulfilled course learning outcome number six which states that we had to “participate productively in collaborative groups”.  This assignment was a collaboration of team work and eagerly working together to create a this formal report. We worked well to designate tasks but, also worked many hours by ourselves and together as a group. We had to communicate which hotel achieved the ease of use, content, and formatting and design the best. There were group meetings, group texts, and a google doc for collaboration of what is going on during the process of conducting and creating our formal report.

Being able to communicate well with others and presenting in front of the class increases your skills and prepares you for the professional field.
