Correspondence

Reflection:

The correspondence assignment included the Bad News Letter and Persuasive Letter.  These documents allowed me to practice and improve on the course learning outcome #4. This outcome claims that I created “professional documents that uses design – standard formats, layouts, use of graphics.” To be able to create these documents we first read the chapters which corresponded with the bad newsletter and the persuasive letter, then we had a lecture on each topic, completed a lab, and lastly, we completed the assignments.

While completing the Bad Newsletter and Persuasive letter, an obstacle that I faced was correctly using block formatting. In the opening, I did not include the letter head, return address, date, and inside address. But, then in the closing I did not include the title of Charlie John. To overcome this challenge I made sure to include and update the opening, and closing of a letter. In the persuasive letter, I had a difficult time keeping the length of the letter to a minimum of one page. Therefore, to eliminate this problem I would use one of the 8 C’s – concise – to get rid of the portions that are irrelevant and wordy.

The skills I was exposed to by completing this assignment will be useful for when I am creating other correspondence letters, memos, or emails out in the professional world.
