I took the Honors English 165 class Writing and Rhetoric with Dr. Sean Ruday. It fulfilled my Writing and Rhetoric Foundation.
Dr. Ruday was great to work with in this Writing and Rhetoric class. I had written a few of six-page papers in high school, but they were spread throughout my four years and were broken into sections that the whole class worked on at the same time such as time in the library, time for the rough draft, time for revisions, and time for the final paper. However, in this class, I wrote a few papers that were a few pages each within one semester. Along with a shorter time between due dates, most of the work was expected to be done outside of class. With these changes, it took a little while to get into a system of writing, Even still, I was able to adapt and overcome. For each paper, Dr. Ruday set out times so that we could schedule an appointment with him to talk about any concerns or ask any questions. That was a great help, and he was able to help me with my scientific paper. I had never written a scientific paper before, but I knew I wanted to write about something impactful and important. While the class was studying scientific papers, how they are written, and what sections they cover, there was an example in the textbook. It was about hormonal changes over the course of time in a relationship. However, the examined relationships were strictly heterosexual. Recognizing the type of oppression and being a LGBTQ+ ally, I took this opportunity to make the inclusion. I wanted to express that it is also important to analyze and study those in homosexual relationships too because their contributions to scientific investigation are just as meaningful.
