Journal #4 October 3, 2021
For this journal, we completed three assessments based on behavioral leadership styles, personality traits, and job motivators and maintenance factors. My results from the first assessment, ‘Your Behavioral Leadership Style’ showed me that I have a higher people leadership style compared with a high task leadership style. This assessment proved that I have a stronger tendency to focus on meeting people’s needs and develop supportive relationships compared with the tendency of focusing on getting the job tasks done. This assessment did not surprise me very much because I believe that meeting people’s needs and having supportive relationships is just as important as completing job tasks because you can work together better.
For the next assessment, the ‘Your Personality Traits and Leadership Styles’ assessment was separated into four questions. My results were that My U of M leadership style is primarily employee-centered leadership style (agreeableness). My Leadership Grid style is primarily country-club manager. My OSU leadership style is primarily high consideration, low structure. And finally, My Leader Motive Profile is primarily a high need for achievement. In all, these showed that I have higher concern for people and less concern for production. Lastly, the final assessment, ‘Job Motivators and Maintenance Factors’ had to do with job factors that contributed to job satisfaction. My results from this assessment were to have higher scores in motivator factors compared with maintenance factors. My score was ultimately higher because I feel as though recognition, achievement, increased responsibility, growth, and advancement are more important to me than pay, benefits, and job security. Not to say that the maintenance factors are less important but it seems to outway a little more for me.
This information can impact me as a social worker because it has shown me that I feel that meeting people’s needs and developing caring relationships may be more important to me than completing tasks. Understanding the social work code of ethics, these traits remind me of dignity and worth of the person and importance of human relationships. These are very important codes to live by and they can allow me to understand people’s needs more effectively and work in the best interests for the client. The roles that might be best fit for me in terms of social work would be possibly in human services management. In all, my areas of improvement based on this information is that although I am very people-oriented, I have to work on not taking on others’ problems and being emotional. My strengths based on this information shows that I have high levels of empathy, active listening skills, and interpersonal skills.
