Journal #5 October 10, 2021
For this journal, we read the following chapter and answered a series of questions about the chapter. The focus of this chapter is on contingency leadership theories and models.
Fred E. Fielder believes that people have a dominant leadership style and that they cannot change styles. I disagree with this statement. I believe that you are able to change leadership styles if the situation warrants it and that leaders should be able to adapt if needed for their job context. I do agree that time is an important situational factor to consider in selecting a leadership style for a situation because it involves the organizational size, structure, climate, goals, technology, etc. These are important in deciding because it refers to a situation that enables a leader to have influence over others.
I believe that Normative Leadership Theory is the best because this theory has a time-driven and development-driven decision tree that enables the user to select one of five leadership styles that are appropriate for the situation to maximize decisions. This theory allows the leader to select a leadership style that best suits the situation in order to effectively make decisions needed. Also, if I had to plan to use a theory it would be this one because it is known to be very helpful in determining the appropriate leadership style if necessary. This would be extremely helpful in my case because I find it to be difficult sometimes to be the correct leader in the moment. It would help me to better establish the best leadership style for me and allow me to grow more as a person.
