Reflection (Statistical Analysis)

There are many things to say about Sociology 346 – Stats for the Social Sciences, but one is its uniqueness that it brings about in the second half of this course. Which examines statistics based on research on surveys completed in the prior semester. Statistics is a class that uses a binder or guidelines to help navigate students to refer back to every lesson in an instructive approach.

In the very beginning of the semester, we began by analyzing independent and dependent sample T-Tests. By comparing the means of two distinct groups, this statistical test can determine whether or not there is a significant difference between the two groups. Moreover, Afterwards, we reviewed the subject of ANOVA, also known as Analysis of Variance, which is another sort of statistical analysis intended to compare group means. Although the variations between the means of the several groups are particularly evaluated for this test. We subsequently learned about the Chi-Squared statistical test following this. Chi-Squared is used to test a hypothesis and see whether external variables have an impact on the result of the test.

Considering that regression is a basis in statistical research, I recognized regression analysis to be a frequent component in these examinations after analyzing a multitude of peer-reviewed articles and literature for research papers. As I examine over the work responsibilities of leadership positions in the military and school counseling positions, I have observed some of the responsibilities may include the use of RStudio or SPSS within these certain career paths. Being able to stay openminded and consider every possibility and to anticipate the trajectory of my career. I’ll be able to translate this new skillset to these potential professions, similar to how I was able to understand regression and apply this towards promotional opportunities further down the road.

Furthermore, we learnt difficult skills by taking this course, such as coding using sites such as RStudio and SPSS. We’ve also developed and improved soft skills like thinking critically, communication, teamwork and other interpersonal skills to accomplish each task. These skills can be applicable to workforce and help have an advantage to grasp understandings of trends to proactivity help people and to effect policy or systemic change.
