History and Systems (PSYC 457)

Psychology History and Systems was one of the most challenging courses I have taken at Longwood. Although difficult, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Having Dr. Laws as a professor for this class made dry information into interesting and engaging topics with personal stories that made students retain information. This class consisted of a few quizzes, three tests, and a semester-long research paper on a self-chosen topic. I had chosen to research Carl Rogers and his life and contributions to the field of psychology. As a junior, I was expected to write a cohesive and perfect APA styled paper and reference page. This semester was also the point in time when the American Psychology Association came out with APA 7th edition. During my psychology research methods class, I was taught and learned how to write using APA 6th edition. Although we were given the choice of whether to use the 6th or 7th, I choose to write this paper using the 7th edition. I wanted to challenge myself and navigate through the new rules and procedures to have these skills going into my senior year.
