Reflection on SOCL-351 Project

During this project, we have grown an understanding of the detrimental effects psychological and emotional abuse can have on children. This project enhanced our understanding more in-depth of how this form of abuse is neglected by most parents due to most parents not having the knowledge of what they are doing in the first place. Most parents have no intention of psychologically or emotionally abusing their children and will do it unintentionally. Bringing awareness to this abuse will in hopes educate existing or new parents on what they say and do to their children matters now and affects them greatly in the future.

There were many strengths within this project. A great deal of research has already previously been conducted on the topic of psychological and emotional abuse toward children. This provided a plethora of information to back our project with detailed research previously conducted on families. This product could have been improved by being able to spread widely on the issue. Being able to have a live copy to have in doctor’s offices or schools to further bring awareness to the issue. Spreading knowledge and awareness of this abuse will in hopes stop it by educating parents that children’s minds are fragile, what is said to them genuinely matters. The goal of this project was to bring awareness to prevent this form of abuse from occurring by bringing healthy parenting tactics to bring into the home.

This project has brought useful skills to bring into the competitive workforce. Having experience in designing and creating an informational product that provides educational information for a diverse audience to prevent violence in the home. This project benefits us for the future workforce by having experience in research and design. This project also provided experience in teamwork etiquette. Having experience in teamwork is crucial for future employment. By having the ability to achieve success by working in teams to create an applicable product. Teamwork builds strong relationships within the workplace to further experience in that occupation.

Within this project, teamwork benefited the product greatly by having multiple minds work and build off of one another. Within this project collaborating on the product together provided efficiency and productivity when researching the topic of negative effects on children from psychological and emotional abuse. Our team could have benefited more from our communication. Communication is key when working on a team to efficiently collaborate on methods to implement into our product. By having clear communication within our team, we can stay engaged with our project by having a mutual understanding.

Furthermore, this project was beneficial in providing experience in designing and creating an informational product for a larger audience. While also bringing awareness to the psychological and emotional abuse parents can have on children. This project will in hopes educate existing or new parents on what they say and do to their children matters now and affects them greatly in the future.
