Comparative Research Report

In this paper I will compare the two pieces of writing called digital writing and traditional writing. Digital writing is very different from traditional writing. Yes, it is writing and there is a person behind the writing but there are many differences in the two types of writing. In my research of digital and traditional writing, I found some examples of each form of writing that will help you to understand what each is. For instance, digital writing, YouTube videos are a form of digital writing. An example of traditional writing are books you would find at your library or bookstore. Now you have some what of an idea of what digital writing and traditional writing are, but we need to dive in a bit deeper into this subject. What makes these two styles of writing so different? Is one preferred over the other? What is truly better for the writer?

Obviously, we can see these writings are presented differently, one on digital platforms being found on the internet the other within a book but the way ideas for each of these are formed differ as well. Digital writing allows for the writer to have feedback from their audience almost immediately which in return allows the writer to make edits at any point of time, allowing for constant evolution of the writing process. This gives the opportunity for the writer to have a more critical thinking process and consider other points of view, not just their own. Where traditional writing has drafts but doesn’t give the opportunity for millions of readers to give feedback until it is already in writing and published. This limits the writer from accessing other points of view. Traditional writing is more personable to the writer than digital writing, it gives the writer personal involvement with word selection and shuts the door for others to meddle in your writing. Also, digital writing is shared with millions simultaneously, where traditional writing can be more private. With traditional writing you can choose to never show anyone your writings, publish them to a small audience or go big and publish your writing to anyone who wants to read it.

As you can see, traditional writing and digital writing are two very different types of writing but they both have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. It all has it’s perks and really depends on what you prefer as a writer. While digital writing may allow for more collaboration, traditional writing allows for a more personal touch. You may be able to get your writing out to millions at once with digital writing, but traditional writing gives you the option to share your writing with who you want to share it with or not share it at all. What really matters is we now have the option for these two types of writing which opens more doors for increased creativity in a writer. It all boils down to the fact that one type of writing is not better than the other type of writing, it all depends on what the writer wants to accomplish with their writing.
