Human Growth and Development
Dr. Braun
Spring 2019

Human Growth and Development is a course that I think all student’s should take at Longwood University.  Our environment and our natures helps mold us into who we are as people, how we react to certain circumstances, and how we construct our beliefs.  Obviously, this class educates future teachers on the different changes their students are going through, but it also helps categorize different variables that can be affecting students.  For example, this course taught the different signs of abuse, the different signs of a learning disability, and the phases of emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities.  As a future teacher I must be able to understand my students, so that I can help keep them healthy physically and emotionally, and reach their goals as they become productive members of society.

I chose this article response as my artifact because I think it gives the best insight to who I want to be as an educator.  As a teacher you must be adaptable and be able to modify your classroom and teaching style for your students.  In this response, I discuss the importance of recognizing autism, so that you can supply your student’s with the best resources for them to be successful.  With new technologies and advancements in research about autism, we can better understand how to approach our students.  As a teacher I want my students to understand math and be able to carry out different operations, but I also have a meaningful goal of being able to show my student’s their potential not only in math, but in life.
