Infrastructure

There are many different aspects that play a part in Longwood’s infrastructure such as transportation, communication, electricity, water, bridges, and so on. By looking into the structures and facilities that our community offers, we will be able to showcase the resources provided for community members.

Transportation

Longwood students utilize the Farmville Area Bus (FAB) to get to and from class as well as around town. The town of Farmville, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and Longwood University, offers fix-route transit seven days a week. By showing student I.D., Longwood University students ride the FAB for free.

The Farmville Regional Airport is another form of in-town transportation located just 5 miles northwest of town. The airport offers services such as aviation fuel, aircraft parking, flight instruction, courtesy transportation, pilots lounge, public telephone, computerized weather, internet access, conference room, and restrooms.

High Bridge Trail State Park

The High Bridge Trail State Park is a 31 mile long trail, that was once the roadbed of a railroad track, has been converted into a pathway perfect for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Standing at more 125 feet about the Appomattox River an extending more than 2,400 feet long, the bridge is the focal point of High Bridge Trail State Park. High Bridge has now become a landmark for Longwood students, a site rooted in history of the Civil War.

Wireless Network

All Longwood University students, faculty, and staff have access to Lancernet wireless. In addition, students also have access to Shentel Wi-Fi in on-campus residence halls and Longwood managed apartments. Students can access User Support Services in the basement of French Hall, located on High Street next to Tabb Hall.
