There are two main types of course blogs: a group blog and a course hub/aggregated site.
A group blog is for the instructor who wants to have the class blogging together as a group on one blog/one space. This is probably the easiest course blog to implement, only requiring a “Add Users” widget. This type of course blog may be used for LSEM or freshman courses to create a community of learners. Below are the examples of group course blogs:

An aggregated blog or course hub blog is for the instructor who wants to have a continuous stream of the latest work from their students. Students set up their own blogs or use their existing blog sites to feed into the course blog. This option allows students to own the work they do for a variety of classes in their own “digital notebook.” Below are the examples of the aggregated course sites:
