When I was a freshman in high school, my plan was to go to JMU. My junior year of high school, I had changed my plan to Virginia Tech. I discussed this with my co-worker, he was an older gentleman, and he told me not to go to a big school. He told me that his daughter wanted to go to a big school until she discovered Longwood University, and she fell in love with the smaller school.
I thought about it, and a smaller school with smaller class sizes seems like the perfect fit for me. I went home and researched Longwood, and I applied that same night. A few weeks later, I went and toured Longwood. I absolutely loved it. The people here were so much kinder than the people at Virginia Tech, and I felt at home the moment I stepped foot on campus.
After my acceptance to Longwood, I was invited to apply to the Cormier Honors College. I felt like the school wanted me, and I knew I was not going to be just a number.
The Honors College is a family. These were my first friends at Longwood. My Honors Mentor and I are still great friends. I love taking honors classes. In my honors classes, I always feel much more comfortable. I am not afraid to speak up because I know the other people in the class are family.
