Androgyny in the Fashion World

Andrej Pejic, a twenty year old male model from Australia, is the new face of men’s and women’s high fashion. Andrej has appeared in editorial spread in various versions of Vogue worldwide, has walked the final look for Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall 2011 men’s line and his women’s haute coulture show, and has been hired as the primary model for  Marc Jacobs. In this interview Andrej, his mother, and his brother talk about his androgyny and his meteoric rise to the status of super model.

Army Strong & Wounded Warriors: Negotiating Recovery in Masculine Military Cultures

Our military serve as defenders of our country, but what happens when they are wounded in the line of duty? The ideal soldier is typically thought of in line with cultural norms of masculinity like extreme physical and mental capabilities, fearlessness, and independence. Join Major Ruppel-Lee, Assistant Professor of Military Science and former Company Commander in Iraq and Specialist Chris Tobey, Communication Studies Senior recently returned from Iraq, to hear these veteran’s experiences working with soldiers with serious injuries. Hear first-hand accounts from the field of how “wounded warriors” are both benefitted and disadvantaged by a military culture and command system that privileges gendered norms of masculinity.
