Goal 4: Artistic Achievement (MUSC 222)

This class was one of the most challenging classes that I have taken thus far. This is primarily due to the fact that I really had minimal interest in music, besides what I listen to recreationally. Learning about the world of music is like learning a new language- and by the end of the course, I truly felt as if I had a newfound appreciation for music. The most challenging aspect of this course was learning how to listen to music. It sounds simple enough, however, when you have a list of 30 songs it can be tremendously difficult to keep them all straight. I struggled a lot during the first few listening quizzes, however, by the end of the semester, I had learned what exactly to listen for in order to determine which songs were which. The artifact that I’ve attached was a research paper that I was required to write for my final grade. Although it was a very extensive paper, I found myself to really enjoy writing it. We were required to incorporate what we had been learning about music all semester and apply it towards our majors. At the time, I was Liberal Studies so I made a lesson plan about Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune. While I found myself working particularly hard for this class, I feel ultimately fulfilled after taking it.
